The four candidates who run for president in the April 13 elections will be guarded under strong police measures. Ministry of Interior informed today that the 6th police unit will be in charge of the security of presidential candidates based on the law for the security of public personalities at times of elections.
The Minister of Interior, Gordana Jankulovska declared that as of Monday, the 4 candidates will be put under police protection.
“According to the law on security and electoral code, candidates will be put under police protection starting from March 24, when the electoral campaign kicks off. Up until now, a request has been made to the Ministry of Interior for protection by the GROM party candidate, Zoran Popovski and security will also be offered by candidates Stevo Pendarovski from LSDM and Iljaz Halimi from PDSH”, said minister Jankulovska.
Security teams of the Ministry of Interior will be on call 24 hours a day, but candidates will not receive protection during the time that they’re at home.
Three members of the Ministry of Interior will guarantee the security of every presidential candidate. Candidates will use party cars, while Interior Ministry will provide special escorts. Current president, George Ivanov, who is running for a second term will continue to be protected in the quality of president.
The 4 presidential candidates for the April 13 elections are George Ivanov from VMRO-DPMNE, Stevo Pendarovski from LSDM, Iljaz Halimi from PDSH and Zoran Popovski from GROM. /ibna/
