Ahead of the parliamentary debate on the 2014 draft budget, all opposition MPs in Skopje have declared that they will vote against. Albanian opposition parties in FYR Macedonia have also declared that they will vote against.

The opposition has proposed 684 amendments for next year’s budget, but the majority says that only a small part will be accepted. According to parliament’s regulation, parliamentary debate on the 2014 draft budget lasts 10 days and must be voted 3 days before the end of the year.

Largest opposition party LSDM has declared that it will vote against, as according to this party, this budget damages the country and economic development, while it fails to resolve the serious social problems of the citizens.

New Social Democratic Party (NSDP) has also declared that it will vote against the budget.

“We cannot vote a budget prepared by the government for its own interests, a government that wants to spend money without being held accountable in front of the citizens”, said Sonja Mirakovska MP from NDSP.

Albanian Democratic Party (PDSH) in opposition believes that 2014 budget discriminates Albanians.

“With budgets like this one, this is the 6th year in a row that Albanians are being discriminated and their impoverishment and unemployment are being stimulated. The same goes for next year’s budget. This budget doesn’t provide funds for capital and vital projects for Albanians and the areas where they live”, says for balkaneu.com, PDSH lawmaker, Bekim Fazliu.

2014 budget amounts to 2.87 billion Euros and it predicts an economic growth of 3.2% and inflation of 3.3%.

According to the Minister of Finance, Zoran Stravrevski, the main characteristic of this budget is the significant growth by 20% of capital investments ./ibna/
