Violence in the stadiums of FYR Macedonia will be prevented through a special police unit.

The special unit’s task will not be the maintenance of order, but to understand more on the needs of the fans and handle them before violence and incidents between groups of fans or fans with police break out.

Meanwhile, private security agencies will take care of the security and order.

“The most constructive proposal that came from a group of fans was to apply the same practice applied in Europe and world. We, at the Ministry of Interior, are asked to retrain police officers who will only deal with problems in the domain of sport, in order for them to understand the needs of the fans and to address them before incidents take place”, said the minister of Interior, Gordana Jankulovska. According to her, a special police unit which will address this issue will be formed as soon as possible.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Interior, since the start of the year, 34 incidents have been registered in sport premises, 19 of which were registered in Skopje. So far, 12 cases of criminal charges against fans have been registered. The latest incident was registered at the start of the new football season, when a Vardar fan lost his hand, after attempting to take a bomb from police officers and throwing it to the crowd. /ibna/
