Special Court for Kosovo to start work on 1 January 2017

Holland has ratified the Agreement to Host the Specialized Chambers of the Special Court for Kosovo.

The news has been published in the official webpage of the Special Court, which confirms that the agreement is expected to become effective on 1 January 2017.

“Kosovo’s Specialized Chambers welcome the ratification of the Agreement for the Hosting State by the Kingdom of the Netherlands between Kosovo and the Netherlands”, the statement says.

This agreement establishes the legal basis of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo.

“Until the agreement becomes fully effective, the Specialized Chambers will continue to operate under the Interim Agreement”, reads the statement.

Head of the Special Prosecution, David Schwendiman has visited both Pristina and Belgrade, where he has declared that he would investigate “without any fear and without favoring anyone”.

The Special Court will try the allegations for war crimes from 1999 until 2000. This court will be funded by the European Union and will act according to the laws of Kosovo, although prosecutors and judges will be international. /balkaneu.com/
