Speaking at an event held in the European Parliament Office in Athens, the President of the House Zoe Konstantopoulou said: “we have launched initiatives to audit the debt”.
Konstantopoulou stressed that the Parliament will honor the Greek people’s need to learn about the debt. She also expressed the commitment of the government and of herself, as House speaker, to claim for the Greek people dignity, democracy and justice.
She added that she looks forward to the close cooperation of the Greek Parliament with the European Parliament and the recovery of European values and principles, of which Europe is sliding away.
In the event also spoke Deputy Foreign Minister Nikos Chountis, who expressed the hope that Greece will complete negotiations with its lenders “swiftly and with good results”.
The Vice-President of the European Parliament and SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis said that the country goes through a critical period, but expressed optimism that the EU will find a mutually acceptable solution.
