Skopje, October 21, 2013

Bulgaria will launch a political campaign by demanding for Bulgarian population in FYR Macedonia to be recognized. According to “Sloboden Pecat” newspaper, Bulgarian diplomatic sources in Skopje say that Bulgarian government may ask for the recognition of the Bulgarian community in FYR Macedonia and that their number is expected to be around 120 thousand. Government in Sofia is expected to demand the status of the national minority and to be incorporated in the Constitution of the country. Diplomatic sources say that authorities in Sofia will increase pressure against Skopje, by using their influence in the European Union.

The figure of 120 thousand Bulgarians living in FYROM has been announced by the director of the Bulgarian Institute of History, Bozhidar Dimitrov, who is one of the initiators of the project which aims to grant citizenship to the citizens of FYROM who claim that they have Bulgarian origins. /ibna/
