Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar has withdrawn the name of the Gojko Koprivec as a candidate for the ministry of Economy, just a few days after his nomination, due to the latter’s ill health. The announcement came from the office of the Prime Minister.
Koprivec was to go before the relevant House committee on Friday, but notified the PM that he will be unable to attend, because he had to be admitted to the hospital.
Cerar’s office said that the 63-year-old, retired businessman, suffered “a sudden deterioration in health”, but added that he remained in the running for the post until this morning.
Finding a new Economy Minister is not the only problem for Cerar, who will have to seriously contemplate the reorganisation of the government and the Economy Ministry, which lost a lot of power in the past few years due to continuous fragmentation of certain sectors and the formation of new, albeit poorly synchronised, ministries (energy, infrastrucure, development..).
