Slovenia: Employment down 0.1% in August 2020 compared to July

Compared to July 2020, in August 2020 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia decreased by 0.1% to around 882,100, according to data published by the Slovenian Statistic Agency.

The number of persons in paid employment went down by 0.1% and of self-employed persons up by 0.1%. The number of persons in employment in construction grew the most in the age group 60–64.

“In August 2020, the number of persons in employment decreased compared to July 2020 by 0.1% (to around 882,100) and compared to August 2019 by 1.2%. Compared to July 2020, in August 2020, the number of persons in paid employment decreased by 0.1% (to around 788,100), while the number of self-employed persons increased by 0.1% (to around 94,100). Compared to August 2019, the number of persons in paid employment decreased by 1.7%, more markedly among those who were in paid employment by natural persons (by 6.3%, to around 49,900), while the number of self-employed persons increased by 3.1%”, Slovenian Statistic Agency states.

In August 2020, compared to July 2020, the number of women in employment increased (by 0.1%, to more than 397,800), while the number of men in employment decreased (by 0.2%, to around 484,300). Compared to August 2019, the number of men in employment decreased more than the number of women in employment (the former by 1.6%, the latter by 0.7%).

In August 2020, on a monthly basis, the number of persons in employment decreased in nine and increased in three statistical regions (by employment). The number of persons in employment decreased the most in the Podravska statistical region (by 0.4%, to around 121,700), the most in construction (by 3.9%), and increased the most in the Savinjska statistical region (by 0.2%, to around 104,000), the most in administrative and support service activities (by 5.9%).

“At the level of Slovenia, in August 2020, compared to July 2020, the number of persons in employment decreased in twelve and increased in eight activities. The number of persons in employment decreased the most in construction (by 0.9%, to around 64,800), particularly in the age group 30–34; it increased the most in the age group 60–64 (by 0.8%, to more than 2,400). On the other hand, the number of persons in employment increased the most in human health and social work activities (by 0.4%, to more than 67,300), particularly in the age group 45–49; the biggest fall was registered in the age group 50–54”, the Agency says.

In the first eight months of 2020, compared to the same period last year, the number of persons in employment on average was down 0.3% (on average to slightly more than 888,500) and the number of persons in paid employment by 0.6% (on average to around 794,500), while the number of self-employed persons increased by 2.0% (on average to around 94,100).
