Slovak MEP, Eduard Kukan says that the situation in FYR Macedonia is worrying, following the clashes between majority and opposition.

Kukan called for the situation to calm down and for the holding of a transparent process by all institutions and responsible sides.

“Tense relations between the party in power and Macedonian opposition have taken a bad turn. This happened with the accusations addressed against opposition leader, Zoran Zaev for attempts to overthrow constitutional order”, declared Kukan, commenting the latest clashes between PM Nikola Gruevski and Macedonian opposition leader, Zoran Zaev, where the letter has declared that he will publish documents and materials that relate to government affairs and scandals.

But, Gruevski says that these documents, from which some are genuine and some not, have been secured by secret services which aim at overthrowing the government through non democratic forms.

MEP Kukan called for caution and transparency, especially by VMRO-DPMNE in power, which is a partner of the European People’s Party.

“We demand from the party in power to respect democratic principles, such as division of the party from the state, independent judicial system which should lead transparent inquires and a democratic process to restore political dialogue”, declared MEP Kukan. /ibna/
