World’s number 2 tennis player Simona Halep announced that she would miss over a month to recover from septoplasty, needed in order to fix a deviated septum. Romania’s top player said the surgery would force her out of Fed Cup where Romania faces a tough confrontation against the Czech Republic.
Halep is likely to miss tournaments in Dubai and Doha, as well. She does hope to be back in the first week of March for her title defense at Indian Wells.
In a Facebook post, Halep says the last 6 weeks have been extremely difficult for her, as she’s been dealing with infections in her stomach, nose and ear. “It’s been one of my most frustrating periods, as I haven’t been able to train properly. I gave it my best shot in Australia but, with the infections still in my body, unfortunately I made things worse, as I pushed myself to compete and fight in a Grand Slam. Under doctors’ advice, I will undergo surgery to fix the ongoing problem with my nose — and I’ve been advised that this is my best option and success is highly likely” the Romanian underscores.
Simona Halep was stunned in the first round at the Australian Open last week by Chinese qualifier Shuai Zheng.
