Ships will monitor Prespa Lake

The first monitoring and research ship was launched today in PrespaLake.

Present in this ceremony was the Minister of Environment and Territorial Planning, Abdilaqim Ademi, accompanied by the Swiss ambassador, Stefano Lazaroto, the permanent representative of UNDP, Alessandro Fracasetti and the head of the commune of Resnja, Gjoko Strezovski.

The participants inaugurated today the launch of the monitoring of the ecosystem of the Lake of Prespa with a ship secured by the project for the protection of the PrespaLake. The activity is implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and commune of Resnje, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

“This is a very important moment for the management of waters in this lake. The ministry and other competent institutions will undertake all necessary steps in order to guarantee long-term stability and modernization of the monitoring system for the Lake of Prespa”, said minister Ademi.

The ship is equipped with sophisticated equipment to monitor the quality of water, the bed of the lake, the species and other parameters which will help in defining the ecological status and changes on the lake. /ibna/
