There’s still not a set deadline as to when the creation of the Association of Serb Communes will start, as an obligation which emanates from the Brussels Agreement reached between Kosovo and Serbia.
The spokesman of the Serb List, Igor Simic says that the creation of the Association of Serb Communes remains a priority for the Serbs, as it would unify their interests in the territory of Kosovo.
“The deadlines have not been respected all these years, but this doesn’t mean that we will forget this issue”, Simic said.
On the other hand, Kosovo’s government officials said that it will have a very instructive approach in relation to the creation of the Association.
Halil Matoshi, representative of the governing cabinet says that this process will be finalized within an optimal deadline.
“The Association of Serb Communes in Kosovo is a constitutional right and it will be formed within an optimal deadline. It is not a pressing issue and it will be formed based on the ruling of the Constitutional Court”, Matoshi says.
The Association of Serb Communes emanates from the First Agreement of Principles for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia reached in Brussels on 19 April 2013.
The Agreement on the Association was reached on 25 August 2015, but on 23 December 2015, the Constitutional Court of Kosovo deemed some of the general principles of the Agreement as incompliant with the Constitution of Kosovo. /balkaneu.com/
