Representatives of the Serbian National Council / SNS / asked to meet with the head of the EU Delegation in Montenegro, Aiv Orav, because of the discrimination against the Serbian people in social and cultural life in this country.
The memo states that the Serbian people in Montenegro were denied of all their acquired rights, not only since the separation of Montenegro as a joint state with Serbia, but also of all those they had as a centuries-old state constituent in Montenegro.
The Serbian National Council points out that even the constitutional rights guaranteed by the Article of Identity Protection have been completely denied to the Serbian people in Montenegro, and their requests and remarks addressed to state institutions have not been answered.
The state institutions of Montenegro, they stated, have in no case respected the opinions of human rights and freedoms defenders regarding their complaints about the obvious discrimination against the Serbian people in Montenegro.
“Without our consent, reports are sent to EU institutions and to you, but these documents do not reflect the actual situation and the particularly negative role of certain state institutions of Montenegro”, the letter adds.
The Serbian National Council points out that the Serbian people are completely excluded from the state institutions of Montenegro and those local communities that are under the control of the current government.
It is noted that despite the significant share in the total percentage of the population in Montenegro – 27.8 per cent, there are no Serb representatives in the judiciary, prosecutor’s office, diplomacy, ministries and numerous state institutions, which can easily be determined from a research in the state institutions of Montenegro itself.
The letter to Orav states that legal solutions are being passed, mainly against the interests of the Serbian people, as a numerous national minority in Montenegro, in order to realize the project of assimilation of Serbs into Montenegrin nationality.
Council representatives point out that they are ready to provide Orav with obvious evidence.
“Please receive the SNS delegation as soon as possible. We will also inform the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States in Montenegro and the US Embassy about the reasons for our request for the meeting”, the letter says./ibna
