Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic thanked Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for Russia’s support to Serbia and “everything Russia has done for Serbia”. At the margins of OSCE conference in Belgrade today, Nikolic Told Lavrov that “without the Russian support Serbia would have many problems”.
Nikolic expressed his gratitude to Russia “on behalf of our small Serbia especially to President Vladimir Putin for his fight against world terrorism”. He added that this Putin’s “objective” was big and that “everybody should join that fight”.
Lavrov thanked Serbia for its solidarity considering the recent downing of the Russian Sukhoi by Turkish air force. “We are sincerely grateful for your solidarity on what Russia is considering a criminal act from November 24 when an airplane on an anti-terror mission was downed”, Russian FM told Nikolic.
In Nikolic’s words, the Su-24 was shot down “due to a mistake from someone in Turkey”.
Serbian President hailed Lavrov’s decision to talk with Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu on the margins of OSCE conference. Lavrov and Cavusoglu held a meeting in Belgrade today, in first high profile encounter following the air incident which provoked serious bilateral problems between Moscow and Ankara.
