Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić spoke on the phone with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, about cooperation, especially economic cooperation, which lags far behind the good political relations between the two countries.
According to the press office of President Vučić, Rouhani noted that Iran will remain consistent in respecting Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and will continue to support the country in international organizations.
Vučić thanked Rouhani for the initiative for talks and noted that Serbia would develop cooperation with Iran in areas where there is real potential and mutual interest.
He expressed hope that both countries will successfully overcome the current state of health crisis and will be committed to fulfilling plans for the future, as well as developing bilateral cooperation, especially economic cooperation.
He said there are great opportunities for cooperation in the agriculture and the food industry, as well as in various productive activities, construction, mining and energy and information technology.
President Vučić stressed that Serbia is sincerely grateful to Iran, which has shown its friendship with its key position on the non-recognition of Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence, and its support for this issue, despite strong pressure.
President Rouhani said that Iran will remain consistent in respecting Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and will continue to support the Balkan country in international organizations.
He reaffirmed Iran’s determination to develop comprehensive relations with Serbia and thanked President Vučić for his participation in the development of bilateral co-operation.
President Vučić expressed his condolences to the victims of COVID-19 in Iran.
The two interlocutors expressed hope that the suppression of the epidemic of this contagious disease would soon allow the transnational contacts planned and the exchange of visits.
President Rouhani extended an invitation to President Vučić to visit Iran when circumstances allow, which President Vučić gladly accepted./ibna
