Serbia: Vučić and Putin speak over the phone

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić had a telephone conversation today with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The two heads of state jointly announced that no one can break the friendship between Serbia and Russia and that relations between the two countries are stable and on the rise.

On this occasion, Serbian President Vučić thanked President Putin for his support in the fight against coronavirus, and in particular for the administration of the Sputnik V vaccine which helped Serbia lead race in the vaccination of the population. President Vučić asked President Putin to help Serbia receive additional quantities of the Russian vaccine as soon as possible, so that as many Serb citizens as possible can receive reliable protection against the coronavirus in the near future. He also stressed that Serbia, with the help of experts from Russia, will build facilities for the independent production of vaccines.

In a long friendly discussion, the two men discussed the full range of issues covering the areas of bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international situations.

Vučić and Putin stated that Serbia and Russia have confirmed a high degree of mutual understanding and friendship in the recent period characterized by the difficulties posed by the coronavirus. President Vučić expressed his gratitude to President Putin for the message read by Minister Sergey Lavrov at the Church of St. Savva.

President Vučić confirmed that Serbia intends to develop further strategic relations with Russia and stated that the opportunities for economic cooperation are much greater than those used. He said that special attention was required on increasing trade, completing current and launching new joint energy and infrastructure projects, and further strengthening cooperation in the field of technological development and innovation, as well as military-technical cooperation, with Putin stressing the importance of the work of the Intergovernmental Joint Cooperation Committee.

President Vučić stressed the importance of the Balkan Stream gas pipeline which contributes to Serbia’s energy stability.

Discussing the regional situation with President Putin, President Vučić thanked the Russian President for his unwavering personal support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, as well as for the active support of the Russian state in the issue of Kosovo and the Middle East. “Russia understands our efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region and Serbia’s readiness for dialogue and compromise as the only way to resolve outstanding issues,” Aleksandar Vučić said. /ibna
