The last farewell was said in Belgrade on Sunday by hundreds of citizens and politicians to Serbian Patriarch Irinej, who died on November 20 after 15 days in the hospital due to a coronavirus infection.
The procession took place at the newly built Church of St. Sava in Belgrade, attended by the vicar of the Serbian Patriarchate, Metropolitan Chrysostom, hierarchs of the Serbian Church, and Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, representative of the Russian Patriarchate.
The funeral was attended by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, the President of the BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, the Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, the President of the National Assembly, Ivica Dacic, Ministers, Military Officers, the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, Krivok Mavrovic and Russia’s Ambassador in Belgrade Aleksander Botsan-Kharchenko.
At the end of the procession, the body of the blessed Patriarch of Serbia was placed in a crypt inside the church of St. Sava.
The Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church will elect the new Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church within three months./ibna
