Serbia wants to conclude EU accession talks by 2019

According to a statement by the Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vučić on Monday, the country’s goal is to complete the negotiation process for EU membership “by 2018-2019”, after which time the decision on Serbia’s membership will be “in the hands of the EU”, Vučić said, during a meeting with the President of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Hannes Swoboda.

Vučić stressed that “Serbia is a factor of stability and prosperity in the region” to continue saying that the country “has made great progress in fulfilling the requirements for EU entry, and will pass a set of very important reform bills after the elections.”

Swoboda on his part expressed his satisfaction for Serbia’s progress  regarding the EU integration process pointing out that “the European Parliament will assist Serbia in the EU accession talks”.
