Serbia, BiH and Turkey committed to peace

Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey are committed to peace and stability – this is the main message of the trilateral meeting between presidents of Serbia and Turkey, Aleksandar Vučić and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Milorad Dodik (Serb), Šefik Džaferović (Bosniak) and Željko Komšić (Croat) on Tuesday in Belgrade.

BiH Presidency Chairman Komšić stated after the trilateral meeting the agreement that BiH and Serbia will solve the open issues in bilateral discussions. He pointed out that, besides the construction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway, participants discussed future projects such as a new idea for rail infrastructure between countries.

“These are very useful projects, although they are expensive, BiH has a great interest in them,” Komšić said.

Džaferović said Turkey is a stabilizing factor in the entire region and that it has good bilateral relations with both BiH and Serbia, announcing that BiH and Serbia will resolve outstanding issues at a bilateral level.

“That is why dialogue is needed. More intensive cooperation between BiH and Serbian institutions is needed because that is the only way to solve problems,” Džaferović said after the trilateral meeting.

He noted that the project of the construction of the Belgrade – Sarajevo highway will have great influence on peace and stability in the region, adding that BiH is obligated to finish the necessary agreements with Serbia and Turkey as soon as is possible, in order to realize this project in the shortest period of time.

Dodik confirmed that other important issues were discussed, such as the Turk Stream pipeline project.

“We pointed out the readiness for other investments, such as the modernization and construction of new railway lines. There is also the need to maintain good political cooperation, stability and peace,” Dodik stressed.

He added that BiH has many internal problems and that it is not in a position to effectively solve the issues, as Serbia does it. That is why, as he said, BiH is late in the preparations for the construction of the highway.

“The Council of Ministers should realize the cooperation and contracts between Serbia and BiH and Turkey and BiH. This will mark the cooperation in the trilateral frame”, Dodik pointed out.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed that BiH must solve the problem with the establishment of the new authorities in the state, a year after the General Elections, as without a government it will be impossible to continue the work on the highway project.

“When it comes to traffic and highways, we are taking steps in this regard and these steps will, I am convinced, bring Serbia and BiH even closer and lead to even more important events in the future,” Erdogan said, reminding that the road is synonymous to civilization and life.

He expressed the opinion that, if a road between the two nations was built, it would affect the population, prevent people from leaving and make the region a place that attracts people.

Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić emphasized that everyone in Serbia and BiH agree that communication links between the two countries must be established, adding that this is a great day because the foundation stone for the highway will be laid. He said that this is an important project for trade exchange between the countries.

“The leaders of the countries will discuss where it is possible to improve the life of ordinary people. For us it is important that all of these projects link people. When you connect people, then is possible to think about better standards and not about their quarrels”, Vučić said.

Later in the afternoon participants will visit the place where the construction of the highway will start and lay the foundation stone, symbolically marking the beginning of its construction./ibna
