Police of Kosovo, EULEX and KFOR have issued a joint press statement, saying that they guaranteed security during Sunday’s demonstration in Mitrovica.
Through this declaration, security institutions say that they have successfully met their tasks by allowing the population to protest in a legitimate, peaceful and democratic way.
“It’s a shame that the protest turned into a violent protest and that police officials were hurt. In this sense, every security agency recognized each other’s efforts and worked efficiently together by not allowing protesters access in the main bridge of Mitrovica, thus preventing further escalation of violence”, reads the statement.
All three agencies believe that the only way for these issues to be solved is dialogue. They call on the population of both sides of Iber river to restrain themselves from every unilateral action, which could jeopardize peace and stability.
