US Secretary of Treasury to visit Athens – Meeting with A. Tsipras

According to the US Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew, the US, the largest shareholder of the IMF, have repeatedly stressed the importance it gives to the restoration of the “sustainability” of the greek debt.

Lew will visit Greece on Wednesday and Thursday, in a bid to step up the pace of the implementation of “reforms”, in order to open the way for the discussion of the reduction of the greek debt, he says in a statement.

The US Secretary of the Treasury “will encourage the government to continue achieving steady progress this summer in terms of reforms, so that Europeans can begin discussing in autumn with the IMF about the timetable and details of debt relief”, is noted in the statement.

According to Lew, the US, the largest shareholder of the IMF, have repeatedly stressed the importance it gives to the restoration of the “sustainability” of the greek debt.

Jack Lew will meet in Athens with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, as well as with Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos, as is specified in the statement.

He will then travel to Chengdu of China on Friday and Saturday to take part in the summit of the Finance ministers of the G20.
