Schäuble: No hope for compensation

The German government reacts negatively to the issue of damages for the period of the German occupation in Greece, with Finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble saying the issue “has long been cleared” and there is “no hope to the claim for damages.”

In his first reaction to this finding in Athens, the German Finance minister asked in an interview with Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung, broadcast Thursday by Deutsche Welle, to not lead the people in Greece in the wrong direction by supposedly legitimate claims for compensation from Germany. “The road of reform is long, the Greeks should not be misled,” Schäuble said.
