Saudi Arabia and Egypt send out their support to Cyprus

On January 19, 2020, Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez expressed Egypt’s confirmation of the rights and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus regarding its resources in the Eastern Mediterranean region, in accordance with international law and the UN convention on the Law of the Sea, including the areas where Cyprus has granted offshore oil and gas exploration licenses. The spokesman also warned of the impact of any unilateral measures that would violate Cyprus’ rights and would pose a threat to the security and stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region, stressing the need for a commitment to respect and apply international law and rules.

In Saudi Arabia, the Minister of Media Turki bin Abdullah Al-Shabanah stated to the country’s News Agency following the cabinet meeting that the Council had evaluated a number of reports on the latest developments on the regional and international scene, stressing that the Kingdom was observing with great interest the current developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, expressing its strong desire for security and stability there and its full support for the territorial sovereignty of Cyprus. The Cabinet reiterated the Kingdom’s call on all parties to comply with the Security Council resolutions on conflict resolution, international peace, security and stability in the region. /ibna
