According to confirmed information of IBNA, both from Brussels and from the environment of Antonis Samaras, the former prime minister will be a member of the honourary presidency of the Wilfred Martens Centre, which is the think tank of the European People’s Party.
The need to regroup, the strengthening and reconstruction of the Christian Democracy, even more after the outcome of the British referendum is considered essential by the EPP and therefore enlists EPP personalities who played an important role in shaping the EU at national and Community level.
At the presidency will participate according to information, former Prime Ministers, former head of the European Commission and the European Council. Apart from Antonis Samaras, among the attendants will be former prime ministers Manuel Barroso from Portugal (former European Commission president) Jacques Santer from Luxembourg (also former president of the European Commission), Van Rompuy from Belgium (formerly of the European Council) Carl Bildt of Sweden and Pedro Passos Coelho from Portugal. The founding meeting will be attended by the President of the EPP Joseph Dole and Secretary General of the EPP, Antonio Lopez-Isturiz.
The inaugural meeting will take place on Monday, June 27, and will be on its agenda the Brexit and major changes to be made to the European project.
