The Stabilization and Association Agreement signed between the European Union and Kosovo is seen as a hope for the revitalization of Kosovo’s economy.

Representatives of the institutions of Kosovo say that domestic producers will mostly benefit after the enacting of SAA.

Their declarations have been made following a visit to the domestic company “Eurolona”, which deals with the production and processing of milk.

President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci declared that SAA improves Kosovo’s position in international markets.

“Many opportunities have opened up now, but this is also associated with challenges, such as growth of competition. But from what I saw ad Eurolona, I realize that competition will be achieved, because the quality is of a European standard and more efforts must be made to continue with this trend”, Thaci said.

Minister of European Integration, Bekim Collaku said that SAA has enabled opportunities, but that it’s now up to respective institutions and specialized labs to handle food safety and standardization of products.

Meanwhile, minister of Agriculture, Memli Krasniqi said that around 25% of all funds have been invested in the past eight years to consolidate the milk sector.

“SAA is an extraordinary chapter which offers many opportunities for producers in Kosovo. We believe that these opportunities will be exploited, without putting aside our common challenges, helping producers to achieve standards required in the European markets as soon as possible”, minister Krasniqi said.

Meanwhile, owner of Eurolona company, Milazim Berisha said that producers and institutions also have an extra responsibility now to invest in eliminating critical barriers which prevent the export of our products in EU markets. /
