Around 5 thousand residents of Rugove and other participants from all over Kosovo gathered on Sunday in Kushiqte, Rugova, in order to participate in the 22nd edition of “Rugova 2014” traditional games.

Kelmendi family from the Highland of Shkoder, that of the lands of Rugova, Mitrovica, Sibovc and the Albanian Diaspora of Europe and America, were in Kushiqte yesterday to hold these games.

Rugova Traditional Games are typical of the land of Rugova, which display a variety of customs.

These games include fights between men and entertaining games, songs, dances and rituals which date back a long time.

“For 65 years in a row, as member of the ‘Rugova’ autochthon folklore ensemble, I have played in England, France, America, Germany, Gjirokaster and Tirana”, says Kapllan Kici, who plays the clarinet.

Vesel Nikci, head of the organizational committee said that these games are receiving a national and international character.

“Today we have five thousand people present from all the Albanian lands and our fellow countrymen from the Diaspora, who are closer to our national traditions”, said Nikci, who demanded for more investments to be made in this manifestation, as according to him, this is not a wasted investment.

These traditional games saw the presentation of cultural diversity of this area.

The program included six races, with 100 racers from all disciplines.

The organizational committee said that as of next year, there will also be another two disciplines which are a tradition of Rugova.

“Each discipline has a special cost. We will try to secure as many sponsors as possible and as of next year, we will enrich these traditional games with cultural and sport activities”, said Arianit Demaj, member of the organizational committee. /ibna/
