Following many deliberations, discussions and consultations, Romanian Prime Minister Ludovic Orban announced shortly that the bill on the election of local lords in two rounds would be passed by Parliament through government responsibility. The resolution of the Emergency Government Decree was initially considered, but the ruling PNL party believed this method could lead the country to early elections, to the Prime Minister’s and President Iohannis’ statisfaction.
However, it is still debatable whether the Government will issue an Emergency Ordinance in addition to taking responsibility.
Main opposition leader, PSD president Marcel Ciolacu, stated his disagreement with the re-establishment of the mayoral system in two rounds, threatening to file a motion of censure with the Hungarian UDMR.
The motion of censure will pass, he said. Our only goal is for this proposal to pass through Parliament instead of heading to early elections. We will prove that we are capable of creating a new parliamentary majority. (…) We will not nominate a party member for the Prime Ministry, he added. /ibna
