Romanian Justice minister asks for declassification of SRI protocols

“On March 19, 2018, Justice minister Tudorel Toader has asked Augustin Lazar, Prosecutor General of the Prosecutor’s Office upon the High Court of Cassation and Justice, based on the constitutional prerogatives and on the legal authority, to communicate if and how many secret protocols have been concluded between the Public Ministry, the National Anti-corruption Directorate and the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) on one side and the Romanian Intelligence Service on the other side.”

This is what the Justice Ministry press release reads regarding the Romanian Justice minister Tudorel Toader’s move connected with the government’s wish to examine the existence and conclusion of protocols with the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI).

“The ministry also wants to know who signed these protocols and when they have been concluded, also urging the Prosecutor General to start the legal procedure of declassifying of these protocols’ content”, the Romania Journal has reported.
