Romania is vulnerable in case of cyber attacks, since it does not have a proper management in place for such crisis. Therefore, a proper response to attacks would be difficult, to say the least. The assessment comes from the director of Cyberint Centre of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), Florin Cosmoiu. „Institutions and procedures, methods should be established to respond to incidents of cybersecurity and crisis situations. As for the response to cybersecurity incidents, the management of the crisis situations is very difficult. Let’s not forget that in 2007 massive attacks occurred in Estonia, where a cyber war was stirred and I don’t know whether we are ready or not for such a challenge. Let me remind you the year 2008 in Georgia, where ahead of the land attack, the armed attack, the classic war was preceded by a cyber war. We must consider these aspects”, Cosmoiu said.
The Intelligence official underlined that cybersecurity cannot be ensured by an institution and it should should be approached as a whole, by both the public institutions and the private sector in Romania. Therefore a cybersecurity market should be developed, to define the standards and make them work by correct principles.
