Romania: Cioloș and Barna in the second round of the USR PLUS presidential election

Dacian Cioloș emerged as the winner of the first round of the elections for the USR PLUS presidency, securing 46% of the votes against 43.9% for Dan Barna and 10% for Irinel Darău (10%).

Specifically, Dacian Cioloș received 15,111 votes, Dan Barna 14,404 and Irineu Darău 3,300 votes.

As none of the three co-candidates obtained more than 50% of the vote, a second round will be held, also online, between Mr Ciolos and Mr Barna, starting this morning at 10.00 and ending on 30/9, also at 10.00.

The result of the vote will be ratified at the USR PLUS Congress to be held on 2 and 3 October, at the Romexpo premises in Bucharest. During the meeting, delegates from all over the country will also elect the members of the National (Political) Bureau of USR PLUS.

In the PNL camp, which will hold a party congress on Saturday, Prime Minister Florin Cîţu told B1 TV that PNL President Ludovic Orban and his rival at the party congress is aligning himself with the USR and AUR, and is asking for PSD votes to bring down his own government. Exactly what Dragnea did, he observed.

He also pointed out that the USR PLUS must understand that from Monday, they will be talking to him as PNL president and he reminded them that no one is begging them to join the government. From Monday, things change,” Florin Cîţu said./ibna
