Romania: Bird flu outbreak reported in turkey farm in Maramureş

Romania has informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of a H5N8 bird flu outbreak in Maramureş for the first time in three years, according to a WHO statement, which was reported by Reuters and broadcasted by Agerpres.

Last week, the Romanian competent authority ANSVSA called for the implementation of targeted measures at national level to prevent the spread of the virus in Romania, after informing the European Commission of the existence of nine avian influenza outbreaks, the H5N8 subtype, which is highly pathogenic in Poland.

On Monday, the relevant Hungarian NEBIH Authority announced the discovery of H5N8 in a large turkey farm in Komarom-Esztergom county, northwest of Hungary, as reported by Reuters./ibna
