Russian-born Romanian wrestler Albert Saritov won the Olympic bronze medal in the men’s 97-kg freestyle wrestling event on Sunday, the last day of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, as he defeated Georgia’s Elizbar Odikadze.
Saritov, 31, naturalised in 2016, won 10-0 technical points and 4-0 classification points.
He added the fifth medal to Romania’s Rio 2016 medal tally — gold in the women’s epee team event; silver in the men’s doubles tannin event that went to Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau; a bronze medal in the men’s 85-kg weightlifting event and a bronze in the women’s coxed eight rowing event.
Saritov defeated Moldova’s Nicolai Ceban to advance to the quarter-finals, where he lost to US Kyle Snyder, while in the repechage he defeated Cuba’s Javier Cortina Lacerra before beting Odikadze for teh bronze medal.
