In the near future, the quality of drinking water in Albania will not have the quality it has today.
This was declared by the National Water Council. A report issued by this council says that climate changes and global warming, are the factors that will have a negative impact on the quality of water in Albania in the years to come.
Meanwhile, the report also adds that the constant drought may lead to landslides, which could cause water supply pipes to crack and allow for the water to be contaminated.
The report also says that changes in the quality of water in the future will have a negative impact in the ecosystems, human health, credibility and operating costs of water services.
Referring to the drought predicted in the years to come, the National Water Council says that with the sea levels rising, there will be a penetration of the salt in underground waters, something which has already started to happen near Lezha and Lac.
“This change in the quality of water also has an impact in the availability of fresh water to be used by people and ecosystems”, the report in question says.
The report also suggests that “the effects of climate changes described above clearly show that the quality of water requires swift attention to prevent significant impact on the health of people, agriculture, ecosystems relating to water and environment in general”. /balkaneu.com/
