IBNA Special Report/It’s been a long time that Albania is involved in Afghanistan and will continue to closely collaborate with other countries to support the Afghan government even more in improving security and recovery of institutions. Minister of Defense, Mimi Kodheli said in the Defense Ministerial taken place in USA that Albania will be part of the incentives of the A5 to assist Afghanistan in the domains of military advising, military policing and medical treatment.

The new government in Tirana says that it intends to continue and play an active role in the military domain and confirms the continuity of its participation in international military missions.
In the framework of the Comprehensive Regional Ministerial 2013 which is taking place in Brdo, Slovenia, the new Minister of Defense, Mimi Kodheli participated in the Defense Ministerial, USA-Adriatic Charter (A5). This ministerial confirmed the importance of the process of Euro Atlantic Integration for the strengthening of stability and security in the countries of Southeastern Europe.
Considering the importance of cooperation between member countries of this incentive in the domain of security and defense, this meeting was a good opportunity to discuss about global challenges of security that are countries face.
This meeting (photo) paid special attention to the role of Albania, Croatia and USA, as NATO member countries, in the support that they are giving to other participating countries in this incentive in the process of NATO integration or other regional structures.
Albanian Minister of Defense, Mimi Kodheli says that it’s been a long time that Albania is involved in Afghanistan and that it will continue to contribute closely with other countries, to support the Afghan government in improving security and in recovering institutions.
Mrs. Kodheli gave assurances that Albania will be part of the incentives of the A5 to assist Afghanistan in the domains of military advising, military policing and medical treatment.
On the other hand, minister Kodheli made a request: “Regional cooperation must be driven by the ‘Smart Defense’ concept and in the use of joint assets in case of need.”
Minister Kodheli considered joint exercises as a good means of further strengthening military collaboration in the region and beyond, by mentioning the joint exercise organized in our country in 2013.
Albanian Minister of Defense has offered her contribution in the regional cooperation and has invited member countries of A5, but also other countries of the region to follow courses in the Center of Foreign Languages or the Advanced Course of Security and Defense in Albania.
Albania is getting ready for an international exercise in 2015, which will see the participation of A5 member countries and also of other countries.
In 2014, Albania will take over the presidency of the A5 Incentive USA-Adriatic Charter. This is the first time that the term of the presidency lasts for a period of 1 year, as up until now, it lasted 6 months. /ibna/
