Rama and Tsipras meet for the first time in New York

The two prime ministers of the neighboring countries, Edi Rama and Alexis Tsipras, have met for the first time in New York (USA). The meeting between the Albanian PM and the Greek PM has taken place during the agenda of the UNO General Assembly.

The Prime Minister of Greece, Alexis Tsipras, published photos and details on the meeting held in New York with the Albanian counterpart, Edi Rama. Meanwhile, Rama’s press office has not issued any official statement on this meeting so far.

The official press release issued by Mr. Tsipras’ office, says that the Greek PM has asked to Prime Minister Rama for the countries to try and solve any pending issues between the two countries.

“The prime minister underlined the importance of the solution of pending issues between the two countries based on international law and in the spirit of mutual respect”, says the press statement of the Greek government.

At the same time, the press release continues, Mr. Tsipras stressed the need to respect the rights of the Greek national minority and their religious rights, stressing the important role of the Archbishop of Albania, Anastas.

“The prime minister said that Greece is waiting for Albania to show its commitment in its efforts for European integration”, the press release says.

“Prime Minister Tsipras also discussed with Mr. Rama the perspectives of bilateral cooperation, stressing on the economy and trade. Edi Rama invited Mr. Alexis Tsipras to visit Albania”, concludes the statement.

However, the press release doesn’t state if Mr. Tsipras has accepted Mr. Rama’s invitation and if he plans on visiting Albania. /ibna/
