A protest was held today by associations of journalists, who requested the release of jailed journalist, Tomislav Kezarovski. The protest followed the decision of the Appeal Court not to release the journalist, but reduce his sentence from 4,5 years to 2 years.
“With this decision, instead of making justice, the court makes political calculations by sentencing journalists. The only fair decision of the court would be the release of journalist Kezarovski”, said the head of the Association of Journalists, Naser Selmani.
The decision of the Appeal Court was also commented by European Federation of Journalists. “Journalist Kezarovski was only doing his job. He should have never been jailed. This decision is a disgrace for the country”, said the head of this federation, Mogens Bjeregard.
Kezarovski was arrested in May 2013 after being accused of leaking the identity of a protected witness, in relation to a murder case. But, the conviction of this journalist was considered to have political motives, because several media have stressed that Kezarovski has collected evidence over the fatal accident which claimed the life of the editor of “Fokus” magazine, Nikola Mladenov. /ibna/
