Municipality of Tirana has presented today (photo), the multi modal passenger terminal project. This terminal is expected to offer a final solution a more quality service of transport in Tirana and the integration of train, urban and inter urban bus transport, taxis, private car parks and services for travelers.

The terminal will be built at the entry of the city of Tirana and will offer services for 75% of the public transport influx.

The total number of vehicles which will benefit services in 2015 is 231 and in 2035, it’s estimated to be around 8524 vehicles.

The terminal will have 340 car parking spaces, 5 train platforms and 3 platforms for the tram. In the first year of operation of the terminal, 60.000 passengers a year will be served, while in 2035, this number will be 220 thousand.

The construction of the terminal will enable a significant reduction of pollution in the city. Around 2500 liters of diesel will no longer be burned within the city on a daily basis and 5-6 tons of CO2 will no longer be emitted in the environment.

The city will have 3.1 km of free parking, which today is occupied by around 192 buses of inter urban and international lines.

The city will have 2310 less vehicles on the road every day, leading to an improvement of traffic congestion.

The value of this project has been estimated to be around 41 million Euros, the economic rate of return is 20.58%, while the financial one is 17.2%, something which confirms the economic and financial feasibility of the project.

The construction of the terminal will be enabled through a partnership between the public and private sector, which means that the entire investment, the operational and maintenance cost will be paid by the investor.

Basha talks about the ambitious project

The mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha has considered the presentation of this project, on the day that Albania is granted the EU membership candidate status, as a good omen even for the European standard which is being implemented in Tirana. He has also talked about the cost of the project.

“How much will this project cost to the citizens of Tirana? A very important question, because this question is followed by ‘where’s the money?’ This is the contemporary solution that the municipality of Tirana, along with its partners has given to this problem. As to when the project will be realized, I’d like to say that this project will start to be implemented immediately after the municipality council approves the concessionary procedures. The other answer is: This terminal’s cost to the citizens of Tirana, taxpayers of Tirana, Albanian taxpayers, is zero Lek. The high economic and financial feasibility, the high implementation through the phases of the project, the big interest of the partners, corporations and giants of this domain will enable work to start immediately after the municipality council gives the political approval and once the transparent concessionary procedures are carried out”, said Basha.

Tomorrow, the municipality council is expected to authorize the municipality of Tirana to start the concessionary procedures. Basha has demanded to the members of the council to give way to this project as soon as possible. /ibna/
