First reaction from the Cypriot government
By Michael Michael
There is a great deal of discussion in Cyprus about the announcement of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu that Turkey is expected to operate a consulate in the occupied territories. The first reaction came via twitter, where Cypriot government spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said that consulates were established on the basis of international law.
Quoting Cavusoglu’s post on twitter on Sunday about the opening of a “consulate”, Prodromou wrote:
“Consulates in another state are established through consensus and on the basis of international law. What is a “consulate” in a violently occupied and looted area that has no recognition from any other state? A den of lawlessness and a manifestation of barbarism, maybe?”/ibna
