Electoral campaign for the presidential elections kicks off today in FYR Macedonia. Part of this race are 4 candidates from 4 political parties.
The candidates are: George Ivanov from VMRO-DPMNE who is running for a second term in office, Stevo Pendarovski from the opposition, Iljaz Halimi, the only Albanian candidate proposed by PDSH (Albanian Democratic Party) and Zoran Popovski-candidate of a small newly founded party, GROM. The campaign will last 20 days.
This evening VMRO-DPMNE will start its campaign in the town of Ohrid, where it has traditionally started its electoral campaigns. Macedonian opposition, led by LSDM (Macedonian Social Democratic League) will start its campaign in Skopje with a convention which will promote its candidate and his electoral platform.
PDSH candidate, Iljaz Halimi will start his campaign with a meeting in Çair in Skopje and Zoran Popovski with a convention in Skopje.
Political parties’ electoral staffs stressed that the campaign will have fewer massive and more intensive meetings with the citizens and an electoral campaign on social networks. Parties have declared that this campaign will promote offers on issues of the integration of the country in Euro Atlantic structures, the solution to the name dispute, reforms and economic development.
The first round of presidential elections will take place on April 13 while the second round will take place on April 27 along with early parliamentary elections. /ibna/
