The electoral campaign for the presidential elections in FYR Macedonia starts on Monday, March 24, while parties have carried out the last preparations before it kicks off.
Electoral staffs are making preparations for the campaign and agenda of meetings with voters.
George Ivanov from VMRO-DPMNE, Stevo Pendarovski from LSDM, Iljaz Halimi from PDSH and Zoran Popovski from GROM are the 4 candidates who will run for president on April 13.
Mr. Ivanov’s electoral staff told IBNA that his campaign kicks off in Ohrid.
“Our campaign kicks off in Ohrid, like we have traditionally started electoral campaigns. From Ohrid, the meetings will continue in other cities, closing the campaign with a big rally in Skopje”, said sources from Ivanov’s press office.
Meanwhile, candidate of the Macedonian opposition will start his campaign in Skopje with a promoting convention of the program and his political platform.
“We will start from Skopje through a convention which will promote the platform of our candidate. Our campaign will focus on direct meetings with the citizens on field, but also intensive communications in social networks”, states the written response sent to IBNA by Pendarovski’s electoral staff.
Albanian candidate of the Albanian Democratic Party (PDSH), Iljaz Halimi is expected to start his campaign from Tetovo or Skopje. “We’re planning the campaign and everything will be decided during the weekend”, said Luan Tresi, spokesman of PDSH. Fourth candidate, Zoran Popovski from GROM is expected to hold a symbolic campaign.
Party staffs have warned fewer massive rallies and more direct meetings with the citizens. Parties say that this campaign will be different to the ones taken place so far.
Presidential election campaign will be combined with the early parliamentary elections campaign which kicks off on April 5. Presidential candidates will join their parties in meetings and cities of the country. This joint electoral campaign will last a week before the first round of the presidential election on April 13.
Election silence will take place on April 13 and 14 and will also be valid for the early parliamentary elections. After this, the campaign for double elections will continue for another 12 days until April 25, when election silence starts for the early parliamentary elections and the second round of presidential elections which will be held on April 27. But, even before the start of the campaign, presidential candidates Ivanov and Pendarovski have started intensive meetings with the citizens in several cities of the country. /ibna/
