Former President of Serbia, Boris Tadic says that he feels guilty about the fact that he didn’t apologize to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on behalf of the Serb people.

In a media statement, Mr. Tadic has talked about the period when he was Serbia’s President. He said that he should have apologized to the people of FYROM for several issues that relate to the history and relations between the two countries.

“I have had the chance to talk to historians and politicians. Some of them have told me many important things and I feel guilty that as President of Serbia, I have not apologized to the Macedonian people about some bad deeds throughout history, when the Serb gendarmerie was here and when our relations have not always been excellent”, Mr. Tadic said.

“This is why, he continued, that as former president, I would like to apologize and make up for my mistake, in an effort to bring both nations closer together”.

“I have often visited Macedonia as a president and it has been very important to overcome several historical problems together, including issues relating to the church. I think that this is the main problem in consolidating the relations between the two states”, Mr. Tadic says. “On the other hand, he adds, we have historical links, in culture and music”, praising “the strong links between the Macedonian and Serb people”. /
