The president of Albania, Ilir Meta has decreed today the nomination of Edi Rama as minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the president’s office informed. Meanwhile, the president has also signed the decree for the dismissal of Ditmir Bushati as Foreign minister.
“The nomination of the Prime Minister as minister is a special case, which is neither foreseen, nor forbidden by the Constitution of Albania. The President of Republic assessed this proposal in the spirit of Constitution and Constitutional Court case laws, by making a wise and initial interpretation of constitutional provisions”, the statement issued by the president’s office reads. Meanwhile, the statement also says that in assessing this proposal, the President of Republic has taken into account the importance of avoiding the possibility for an institutional crisis, which would damage Albania’s position in its international relations. /ibna/
