President Klaus Iohannis has sent on Monday a message of condolence to the royal family on the death of Queen Anne, emphasizing that she will remain one of the most important symbols of wisdom, dignity and moral conduct.
“Her Majesty Queen Anne of Romania will remain forever in our memory and souls as one of the most important symbols of wisdom, dignity and moral conduct. Over her honourable life, Anne of Romania was the expression of the most distinguished values of decency, devotion and love towards the country the name of which she bore,” President Iohannis wrote in his message, the Presidential Administration informs, showing that the head of state received with profound pain and sadness the news of the Queen’s death.
He mentions that Queen Anne was at the side of King Mihai over the entire period of the “bitter exile” and that she and the King campaigned together for the prosperity of Romania, and that the diplomatic tours and missions for the country’s accession to NATO and the European Union stand testimony to this.
“I wish to convey, in these difficult moments, my compassion and solidarity to His Majesty King Mihai and the entire royal family,” said Iohannis.
Queen Anne of Romania, also known by her Romanian name Ana, died on Monday afternoon at the Morges Hospital in Switzerland, aged 92, the Press Office of Romania’s King Mihai announced.
