President Klaus Iohannis will pay a visit to the USA during June 4-9. He will meet US President Donald Trump and will attend the Global Forum of the American Jewish Committee, where he is to be awarded the „Light Unto the Nations” distinction, the highest one of the organization.
According to a press release by the Presidential Administration, President Iohannis will have an official encounter with the US counterpart Donald Trump on June 9.
The meeting will be an opportunity to discuss the perspectives of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the USA, says the Romanian Presidency.
“The encounter of the two officials will be an excellent occasion to discuss the perspectives to extend and deepen the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States, on all relevant levels, including considering that we mark 20 years in 2017 since the partnership has been launched. Therefore, President Iohannis will approach the action priorities of the bilateral relations and will reconfirm our country’s firm commitment to remain a predictable, stable and reliable ally of the United States,” the press release says.
The Romanian president will attend the Global Forum of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), as guest of honour, on June 5.
“On this occasion, AJC will award President Klaus Iohannis the „Light Unto the Nations”, the highest distinction conferred to heads of state or government in acknowledgment of the major international impact on peace, security, democracy, human values promotion. American Jewish Committee highlighted that it has decided to honour President Klaus Iohannis for his action as < a leader committed to strengthen democracy and rule of law in Romania (…), for his efforts to counter anti-Semitism and to deepen the ties between Romania and the USA and between Romania and Israel>,” the above-mentioned sources added.
The prize will be awarded during the Global Forum’s World Leaders Plenary.
„Light Unto the Nations” was also granted to renowned world leaders, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, ex-French President Nicolas Sarkozy, ex-US President Bill Clinton and other heads of state from Europe and Latin America.
President Iohannis’ visit to Washington will also include a meeting with the representatives of the Romanian community living in the USA./IBNA
