President of FYROM calls for acts of hatred in stadiums to be stopped

Skopje, May 23, 2013

The President of FYR Macedonia, George Ivanov has condemned the events taken place in “Philip II” stadium in Skopje, which led to the suspension of the football match between Tetekst and Shkendija.

President Ivanov demanded urgent institutional action to be taken against those who caused this event.

“Unfortunately, yesterday, during the final match of the cup, which should have been a football feast, once again we saw insults and elements of violence, after which the match should have been suspended like it did”, declared Ivanov.

Ivanov added that now is the moment to show a more rigorous attitude toward such phenomena and penalize all those who have no connection whatsoever with sport.

The cup final of FYROM between Shkendija and Teteks will be played on Sunday without the presence of fans. This is the decision taken by the Football Federation of FYROM, after the 21 cup final was suspended last evening amid nationalist chants of fans. /ibna/
