Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Popovski says that even now that elections were held, NATO and EU accession remains Skopje’s strategic objective.
Acting foreign minister of former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Popovski issued this declaration in Washington, where he’s on a work visit. Popovski met with the US Secretary of State, John Kerry in the framework of the enlargement of NATO and European Union.
“We’ve had the chance to exchange opinions with the US Secretary of State Kerry and foreign ministers of the Balkan on the coming priorities. What preoccupies the opinion is the situation in Ukraine and this was a good opportunity to send a message that NATO remains committed in order for Europe to remain united and free and that such objective can only be met with the accession of Macedonia and other countries of the region in the NATO”, declared Popovski.
He said that with his counterpart, Kerry, they talked on the crisis in Ukraine and its impact on the Euro Atlantic integration.
The conference of the USA Atlantic Committee was held in Washington. Its topic was “Enlargement of the North Atlantic Alliance and the crisis in Ukraine”. In his speech in the joint panel consisting on the foreign ministers of Albania, Bulgaria and Montenegro, minister Popovski stressed the need of the accession of his country in the NATO in the September summit in Great Britain. /ibna/
