Foreign Minister of FYROM, Nikola Popovski declared that Germany wants and is looking for ways to resolve the name dispute. Popovski made these comments ahead of the Balkan Conference scheduled to take place on August 28 in Berlin.
Popovski said that he backs Berlin’s positioning that the “status quo” of the country in the European integration and NATO, is suitable neither for FYROM, nor the entire region.
“Germany is interested for progress in the process of integration, as it’s now clear for chancellor Merkel and the German diplomacy that the continuation of the status quo for Macedonia, with unreasonable delays in the start of talks with the EU and delays for the NATO accession, do not bring good results for the region. The German diplomacy wants this issue to be solved and they know that the main problem is the blockade imposed by Greece”, declared foreign minister Nikola Popovski.
He underlined that Skopje and Athens must have the will to overcome this pending issue. He assured that FYROM has such will, as there is no better alternative than NATO and EU, while Greece, says Popovski, doesn’t have such will.
“There cannot be a solution without will”, said Popovski. /ibna/
