New poll depicts Greek’s disappointment

A new poll reaffirms the great disappointment of Greeks and the 3,7% lead of right wing party of New democracy over left-centrist SYRIZA.

A poll conducted -this time with personal interviews and not by phone-, addressing a questionnaire to 2,000 Greek voters, shows that the election of Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the leadership of the conservative party of New Democracy in combination with the harsh measures that  SYRIZA-ANEL government takes because of the pressure of the lenders, boosted New Democracy by 3,7%.

This is the third poll in the last 2 months, and it could be considered reaffirming the previous two on January, but the truth is that the latest  poll was conducted under “special circumstances”, that is in the midst of  road blockades by  the farmers and the threat of expulsion from Schengen because of the refugee crisis. It also (like the previous two) does not take into consideration the abstention factor (almost half of those who responded is highly  probable that they will finally decide to abstain, since Greeks are quite disappointed from the fact that many governmental decisions essentially are taken in Brussels and it really does not make any difference which party is going to be in office as long as the country remains in the European Union.) In the last elections the abstention rate was extremely high for the Greeks –almost 45%.

The same poll showed the rage of Greeks. In the question “which words describes your feelings best” (they could chose more than one) , 64 % chose the word rage, 49,3 %  the word embarrassment, 49,3 % the word fear, and….13 % the word hope. (Yet, perhaps the results would be more representative if the questionnaire included the option of “disappointment” which in every day life Creeks use more  then rage or embarrassment ,  anger and rage, to describe their feelings).

Specifically according to the MRB  poll results  the answers of the respondents were:

New Democracy (main opposition, right wing):  26,9 % (i28. 09 in the last elections)

SYRIZA (governing party, centre-left):  23,2  (35. 46 in the last elections)

KKE (communist party):  6,6 % (5.55 in the last elections)

Golden Dawn (extreme right): 6,5 (6,.99 in the last elections)

Democratic Coalition (PASOK-DIMAR, socialdemocatic parties):  5,7 % (6.29 in the last elections)

Union’s Centrists:  4,1 % (3.44%  in the  last elections)

Independent Greeks (ANEL, centre-right, co-governs with SYRIZA):  3,0% (3, 7  in  last elections)

Potami (centrist):  2,6 % (4.09 in the last elections)

Popular Unity (leftist):  2,4 %  (2.86 in the last elections)

Antarsya (communist party): 1,9% (0,85 in the last elections)

Other parties: 1,8 %

Indecisive: 15%
