The Montenegrin Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Podgorica and the Chinese Embassy in Montenegro, organized bilateral talks between Montenegrin and Chinese businesspersons from Ningbo as part of the presentation of Podgorica’s investment potential to Chinese companies.
Marjan Junčaj, the capital’s manager, presented Podgorica’s investment potential.
Chamber Vice President Ivan Saveljić thanked the guests from China for their continued interest in strengthening the ties between the economies of the two countries. He recalled that in 2017, in order to stimulate economic cooperation between Montenegro and China and to promote global trade and investment, the Chamber of Commerce became a member of the international chamber association “The Silk Road”.
“We see an opportunity for further cooperation between the two countries in developing the potential of the Port Bar and modernizing the railway line from Bar via Belgrade to Budapest, with the aim of better regional cohesion and faster economic growth”, Saveljić said.
He said that the interests of Chinese investors in Montenegro are directed towards different industries, and that the most important is the involvement of Chinese companies in the construction of infrastructure.
“The interest of companies from this country to invest in energy is emphasized. The space for cooperation is also recognized in tourism, where visitors from distant markets, such as China, can be attracted by united, through regional cooperation”, said the Chamber’s Vice President.
According to Ljiljana Šćepanović, the presentation of Podgorica’s investment potential is aimed at foreign companies already operating in the country, or those intending to expand their business in Podgorica.
“The city government attaches great importance to the provision of adequate conditions for attracting foreign investment, and therefore we organized this event. We aim to present the potential of the Capital better and closer, as well as the development of the business sector and the presentation of incentive measures of the investment program in various fields of energy, technology, industry, traffic, real estate, all the way to culture,” Šćepanović said.
Economic and Trade Advisor to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Montenegro, Bao Shunqing, emphasized the fact that the traditional friendship of Montenegro and China, through the “Belt and Road” initiative and cooperation of businessmen of China and 17 Central and Eastern European countries, receives new and contemporary contents.
“The good relations between the two countries are developing rapidly. The fact is that the finalizing of jobs on the priority section of Bar Boljare Highway, carried out by the Chinese CRBC, beginning of the operation of the Mozura wind farm, which was invested by the company from China. On the other side more and more Montenegrin wines are entering our market. This pragmatic cooperation has benefited the peoples of the two countries”, Shunqing said.
He concluded economic and trade cooperation between Montenegro and China is on the rise./ibna
