The polling company Kapa Research carried out a special pollster debate of Alexis Tsipras and Evangelos Meimarakis – main contenders of the September 20 election – on behalf of the newspaper To Vima, of which the second part was published on Tuesday in the electronic page of the newspaper To Vima.
The debate arising from the responses of citizens highlights the pros and cons of Tsipras and Meimarakis, while at the same time records in which areas of governance excels SYRIZA (eg social inequalities and labor relations) and in which ND (addressing migration and national issues).
With low performance in key governance features grade citizens the former prime minister and president of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras, who however recognise to a great extend that he represents the new in the political life and that he represents the people and not the interests.
On the other hand, the president of ND represent the old in the country’s political life, has no vision for the future of Greece, no clear plan for solving the problems and doesn’t care for the needs of people.
According to the nationwide survey Kapa Research , the two politicians are assessed very negatively by citizens regarding the management of finances.
Based on the survey, Tsipras is matched with the following characteristics: he has foreign policy experience (0.2%), is good in dealing with migration (1.1%), is good at managing the country’s finances (1, 1%), has a clear plan to solve problems (1.4%), can take the country out of the crisis (6.8%), can realise what he says (7.9%) and shares the values of respondents (8.8%).
Instead, the following characteristics are attributed to Meimarakis: he represents the new in the political life (1.1% – is one of the most negative points as people identify him with the old system), cares for the people’s needs (3.1%), has a vision for the future of this country (3.3%) has a clear plan for solving the problems (4.2%) and is good at managing finances (7 , 4%).
Tsipras outweighs Meimarakis in the willingness to take difficult decisions (40.5%), understanding of the daily problems of citizens (36%), while a high percentage of the people view him as representing the new in the political life (32.7% ), an element that is very important in comparison with the President of ND.
